Wix is the fastest way to get a rental site online yourself, and the thing to understand before you start is that the site stays there. Wix states plainly in its own support documentation that a Wix site is built with Wix technology and needs to be hosted and operated on Wix servers, so it cannot be exported and run elsewhere. That is not a hidden catch, it is how a software as a service platform works, and it is fine as long as you decide it deliberately rather than discovering it in year three when the fleet has outgrown the site.

The cases where the difference is structural rather than a matter of taste.
Because a Wix site cannot be exported, a move is a rebuild rather than a transfer. In practice that is less painful than it sounds: we take the content that works, your photography, your rate and terms wording and the articles worth keeping, and rebuild them into the new design. Your domain points at the new site, old page addresses are redirected to their closest match so nothing a renter has bookmarked breaks, and you cancel the Wix plan only once the new site is live and you are satisfied with it. Nothing about your email is touched by pointing the domain.
Renters used to call and ask what was even included with a weekly hire. Now the rate page answers that before they pick up the phone, and the calls we do get are ready to book.

Moving off Wix means rebuilding the site somewhere else, which is worth knowing before you invest two years of content into it.
The controls are good. Wix supports per page titles and descriptions, slug editing, canonical tags, an indexing toggle, social tags and JSON-LD structured data. What Wix cannot do for you is decide the page architecture, which is the part that actually determines whether a search for a campervan in your city has a page to land on.
Wix documents that tracking scripts such as Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager and advertising pixels do not work through its custom code area, and must be added through its own marketing integrations instead. It is workable, it is just a different route than you might expect.
Not automatically, and Wix has improved considerably. The pattern we see on rental sites is that speed degrades as galleries, sliders and widgets accumulate on vehicle pages. A custom build starts with a performance budget and every new page has to stay inside it, which is a different discipline rather than a different platform.
If you registered the domain through Wix you can usually transfer it out to another registrar, subject to the standard transfer rules. The site itself cannot move, only the domain name. The words, the photography and the structure carry over; the pages themselves are rebuilt. In practice we treat this as an opportunity: a fleet that has been on one page since launch usually gets a page per class for the first time, which is where most of the search improvement comes from.
The subscription is cheaper. The total is not, once you count your own time. A Wix plan plus five hours a month of your evenings, plus whatever you pay someone to write articles, is the real comparison. We are not going to pretend the sticker price is the same, because it is not.
If you are getting the enquiries you want, the site is current, and nobody in the business resents maintaining it, stay. We would rather tell you that than take a monthly fee for solving a problem you do not have. Come back when the fleet outgrows it.
